Solar Energy Training & Capacity Building

Green Scene Energy and Munyax Eco teams in a joint TOLO working session
Knowledge sharing across borders: Green Scene and our Rwandan partner Munyax Eco in a joint TOLO session

Green Scene Energy delivers professional solar energy training and capacity building across Ethiopia, transferring a decade of hands-on engineering and installation experience to the next generation of clean energy professionals. Our trainers are the same engineers who design and build our mini-grids, hospital systems and solar water pumps, so every course is grounded in real projects, not slides.

The engineers who build Ethiopia’s mini-grids are the ones at the front of the classroom.

Who we train

  • University students: around 40 students trained in partnership with Addis Ababa University, bridging the gap between engineering theory and real-world solar project delivery.
  • TVET technicians: hands-on solar technician training aligned with Ethiopia’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training system; approximately 50 technicians trained with TVET institutes, covering solar PV installation, battery storage, maintenance, and safety.
  • Refugee and host communities: around 70 trainees through livelihood-focused renewable energy skills programs delivered with ADRA in Jijiga and Addis Ababa, opening pathways to employment and entrepreneurship in the clean energy economy.
  • Professionals and career changers: anyone seeking to build or upgrade their skills in solar energy, from fundamentals to advanced system design.

What we teach

  • Solar PV systems: design, installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance of off-grid and grid-tied solar power systems
  • Battery energy storage: safe handling, sizing, and integration of modern storage technologies
  • Clean e-cooking: induction cooking technology, including Ethiopia’s locally manufactured TOLO stove
  • Productive use of energy: applying clean energy to income-generating activities such as solar water pumping and agro-processing

Our training partners

Our capacity-building programs have been delivered in partnership with ADRA, Addis Ababa University, and Ethiopian TVET institutes. Green Scene Energy is also a grantee of the Ethiopia Jobs Challenge Fund, a program implemented by the Ministry of Labor and Skills (MoLS) with financing from KfW (German Development Bank), creating clean energy jobs and skills for refugees and host communities in Addis Ababa.
