The 200 kW Oborso East solar mini-grid, engineered and built by Green Scene Energy

Green Scene Energy started with single homes. Our first systems put solar on the roofs of individual Ethiopian houses, and everything we build today grew from that start. A decade later we deliver turnkey solar power systems across Ethiopia, from home and business systems to remote community mini-grids, hospitals, embassies, airports and commercial facilities. We handle the full chain in-house: site assessment, engineering design, procurement and importation, civil works, installation, commissioning and after-sales support. Our systems are engineered to run for decades in some of the most demanding environments in the country.

Solar mini-grids

We are one of the few Ethiopian companies to have taken solar mini-grids from feasibility study to commercial operation. For GIZ Energising Development (EnDev) we engineered and built five mini-grids totalling 684.5 kWp of solar with 1,425 kWh of battery storage, connecting 4,250 households, businesses and institutions in Oromia, Somali and South Ethiopia regions. Our sites include the 200 kW Oborso East plant, the 174.5 kWp Gera plant, the 140 kW Kurtunel plant and the 100 kW Oda plant, each with smart metering, distribution networks and productive use of energy programmes.

Institutional and commercial systems

Beyond mini-grids, we design and build solar PV and battery systems for clients who cannot afford downtime. We have powered more than 11 health facilities, including solar systems for children’s operating rooms with KidsOR, and hold a hospital solar EPC contract in Gambella worth USD 611,000. Our portfolio also covers close to 60 kWp of solar with 94 kWh of storage across diplomatic facilities in Addis Ababa, including solar PV, battery storage and inverter backup for 8 diplomatic residences with the second phase delivered in 17 days, and the 40 kW Gode Airport project powering VHF and ADS-B air navigation infrastructure in the Somali region. Every system is designed by our in-house engineers with yield and shading simulation before a single panel is ordered.

Built properly, from the ground up

Our own crews carry out the civil works, powerhouse construction, mounting, cabling and commissioning, working to strict site safety procedures. Equipment is inspected at our central warehouse in Addis Ababa before it ever reaches site, and we manage transport and logistics to some of the most remote locations in Ethiopia. That control over the full chain is why our systems keep running: quality is not subcontracted.
